Marta Maria Perez Bravo Biography


Marta María Pérez Bravo was born in Cuba and currently lives in Mexico. She is best known for her black and white photography and her recurrent theme of Afro-Cuban Santeria. She depicts symbolic scenarios referring to these myths and rituals of Cuban witchcraft.  She also includes votive offerings and other elements of popular lore.  Pérez Bravo uses her body as an altar, a vessel, a gate, a temple or a bird-house, that is, as a vivid metaphor of her dreams and visions.
