Soham Qadri’s works on paper blend abstraction, color, and his spiritual studies of yoga, Buddhism and Tantric philosophies. He refined Tantric symbolism in his work into his own abstract, modernist language using broad areas of open color, inspired by the landscape.
He worked on paper beginning in the 1970's, covering the surface of the paper with structural effects that he created by soaking it in liquid and carving it in several stages while applying inks and dyes.
In the process, the paper was transformed from a flat, two-dimensional surface into a three-dimensional medium. This repetition of careful incisions on the paper was an integral part of his meditation and yogic practice.
The demand for his work and consequently, his prices, have gained strength at both auction and tin the gallery market. Sohan Qadri's work has been included in solo exhibitions worldwide and is represented in numerous museum collections, including those of The British Museum, London; The Brooklyn Museum and The Rubin Museum of Art, New York; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Peabody Essex Museum, Massachusetts; the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto; and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, as well as in many important private collections of Cirque du Soleil, Heinrich Boll and Dr. Robert Thurman.
